Getting Ready For FCATS

For the next week we’ll continue to get ready for FCATs . Your science FCAT will be Monday March 5th and covers material from grades 6, 7 and 8. Additional study materials can be found on the Home Study page, scroll down the right-hand sidebar.

I know this can be a stressful time so getting enough sleep and eating properly are very important to your success. Get in the habit right now. You need a minimum 8-9 hours of sleep and a good breakfast.

Also, remember that much of the test, tests your thinking skills, not your memorization skills. You will have the science reference sheet that you’ve been using all year long to help you. (They’ll provide you one for your test but if you’ve lost yours you can print another copy from the Home Study page, look under class documents on the sidebar.)

In addition the science FCAT builds on your reading, math and writing skills; skills you’ve been developing for a long time. Questions will also be similar in format to your other FCAT tests and you can apply the same test taking strategies. For some questions you don’t even need to know any science; the answers will be in the reading, or you’ll just need to do some simple math.

We’re not going to learn 3 years of science in the next week, so don’t try to do that at home either. All we’re going to do is try to refresh your memory. You can do this at home too by reviewing the vocabulary and taking sample tests.

Just do your best.

Review Punnett Squares

Do you remember these? We used them in class (or at least you should have) to determine the F1 and F2 offspring in today’s FCAT ScAT. They are called Punnett Squares. Click the image to get a quick overview on Punnett Squares and a bit about genetics.

Hi Guys

I added today’s FCAT ScAT pictures to the gallery; stop by and take a look.

It’s about 8:30 and I’m working on another PowerPoint presentation to go along with the FCAT review we did today. Just like the one I posted yesterday, it will have links for each station providing more information. While all this FCAT stuff may make your eyes glaze over it is important for you and the school. So I plan to give you as much time and as many resources as possible to help improve your score.

Tomorrow in class we’ll review and grade the first 2 days of FCAT ScAT. If time allows we’ll pick up where we left off on our energy term presentations and continue those on Wednesday. Remember, Science News reviews are due Wednesday. Thursday and Friday we’ll be back to doing FCAT Science Activity Stations.

Have a good night, see you tomorrow.

FCAT ScAT

I hope you enjoyed the science activities on Friday (pictures are in the gallery). Each of the 7 stations was designed to help stimulate your thinking and enhance your recall of various science concepts. You’ll be tested on these during the FCAT in March.
Monday, Thursday and Friday of this week will be spent doing similar activities. Don’t miss it!
Get some extra study and review for the FCAT by clicking on the image and following the links embedded in the presentation.
