Fossil Find

How strange is this? I was checking my email tonight and found this from Nova. I linked the picture to the Nova site (click on the picture) where you can watch the program online. See how these real paleontologists debate their findings and reach very different conclusions on what this animal looked like. Sound familiar?

  1. There r 5 different scientific process :formulation of scientifically investigable questions, construction of investigations into those questions, the collection of appropriate data, the evaluation of the meaning of those data, and the communication of this evaluation.

  2. I’m not really sure…..but the process of science is testing ideas, I think. Going by what I think, the process of science is like a bubble map. Middle bubble = testing ideas. Outer bubbles = exploration, outcomes, and feedback.

  3. The process of science tests ideas you used in an experiment. One of a good ways to collect data in my opinion is bubble map type organizers

  4. “The processes of science include the formulation of scientifically investigable questions, construction of investigations into those questions, the collection of appropriate data, the evaluation of the meaning of those data, and the communication of this evaluation”

This means that you take a question (involving science) and you begin to construct an experiment around that question. Using the experiment you created you then gather the data, You then evaluate and come to a conclusion, finally you communicate your idea to the rest of the world (or in a classes case the rest of the class) :)

  5. Not 100% sure but I believe the process of science is a where you find a question and begin to find data to prove of disprove an idea.

  6. Hey Mr. Grant!
In a website I was looking at it stated that. The process of science is Exploration and Discovery, Testing Ideas, Community Analysis and Feedback, Benefits and Outcomes!

  7. this webis very nice and it is really easy to find what you are looking for. also the fossil find really helped our team work together and work on our problem solving skills and it made you use your imagination because you dont have all of the bones

  8. Looks like you guys are thinking about the “Processes of Science”. Did any of you find something on this website about it? Look around.

Also has anyone followed the link to NOVA and atleast started to view the 4-winged dinosaur?

  9. Yeah you can learn a lot a lot about the science process under Big Ideas #1. It basically is the scientific method.

  10. I think its Test, Discover, Evaluate, Learn from mistakes, and prove your answer with facts! The dinosaur video was boring to me but i guess it had some cool parts that suprised me. i am going to finish the second half after my basketball practice!

  11. “The processes of science include the formulation of scientifically investigable questions, construction of investigations into those questions, the collection of appropriate data, the evaluation of the meaning of those data, and the communication of this evaluation.”
This basically means that you use the process of science to form questions about a subject and you use those questions to deeper investigate into whatever subject you are experimenting with. Then you must formulate appropriate data and analyze it to form a valid conclusion. Lastly, you can shre it with the class, or your friend, or maybe just your teacher.
I just recently started the dinosaur movie/documentary and I sort of liked it. But what I don’t understand is, why would this creature be considered a raptor? I understand that it has sharp teeth, but raptors that can fly, I guess they were the kings and queens of the dinosaur world because they seemed to outnumber every other creature in the world at that time.

    • I’m not an expert but I think there was some mention of it having a “killing claw”, the sharp long claw on the hind foot. This was a trait of raptors, although I’ve heard discussions about the true function of the claw being climbing or holding not ripping.

  12. I think that that the process of science is kind of like the scientic method. but i also think that it casn be other things, like how you gather data, how you organize data and so on.

  13. Hey Georgie here :)
The Process of science seems to be like the scientific method how you can ask a question, form a hypothesis, make observations, test the hypothesis, analize the results, draw conclusions, and communicate results. Lots of helpful stuff under Big ideas #1 :)

  14. Process of Science is like when you develop a hypothesis expirement and then solve your hypothesis based on the data. Oh and sorry I forgot to scream “Hi Mister Grant!” today haha

    • Good question. There were several parts to your homework. First reflect on how technology affects your learning — that should be done in your notebook. Second visit the website, comment and look for information about the process of science. Some are getting all of the second done here (they obviously visited the site and wrote a comment, and depending on what they wrote showed that they found information about the process of science). I would still put something about this in my notebook. The last part was to get your middle school policy document signed, that you can’t do here.

  15. The fossil find I think followed some of the process of science but i think some of the steps were out of order.

  16. I found the process of science under Big Ideas #1. The process of science is creating scientific questions, testing those questions and getting data, evaluating the data, then talking about the evaluation.

  17. Ohh i think i get it okay so, no the fossil find was not following the process of science or “scientific method” because we didnt make and observations, we didnt have a hypothesis, and we didn’t do many tests on which outcomes we could have. Usually for good results you would have a hypothesis and you wouoold make observations and you would have data.

  18. I’m going to guess that the process of science is where you research something you find interesting to learn to things about it.

    • Can you do better than just a guess? Read some of the other comments, look for more information on this site or other sites.

  19. I think the process of science is when people tests some ideas, and discover some things, and get some final outcomes about the ideas.

  20. So the process of science is not always using the scientific method. I never knew that but its a good thing to know.

  21. I found the process of science underneath Big Ideas Number 1!
” The processes of science include the formulation of scientifically investigable questions, construction of investigations into those questions, the collection of appropriate data, the evaluation of the meaning of those data, and the communication of this evaluation.” This means asking little questions, finding the little answers, and then putting it in one big answer.

  22. The process of science also known as scientific method is when you ask/create q question, research, make a hypothesis, test your hypothesis and review the data to make a conclusion
