Will you let the lights go out?

out-of-gasWhat would your life be like without electricity or gasoline for your car? Will you ever face that situation?

Over 70% of the elctricity in the US is produced from fossil fuels. How much of our non-renewable energy resources do we have left? When will they begin to run out 2030, 2050 or will they last longer?

What should we do?

I think that this is a major problem, i mean its not affecting us now but it sure will affect us in the future….i really think they should stop using non-renewable resources and start thinking about using and finding more renewable resources like water, sun’s enregy, etc…

    • Mr. Grant says:

Carlos, this is a tough problem and a lot of different sides to the understand. I’m glad you are thinking about it. Any specific ideas about what you could do now?

  2. JeSsIcA P4 says:

well….i think we should just try 2 save like all the resources we use and u know not waste..and turn off the lights when your not usinq them and stuff like that…

    • Christine P5 says:

I agree with you. If we all turn off our lights, water, t.v’s and anything else that uses electricity, we would save more enrgy and i think our parents would be happy to see how low there electricity bill has gotten.

  3. Meagan P7 says:

I think that eventually we will run out of non-renewable energy resources because they are non-renewable. They estimate a time at which they think all of the resources will be used up, then they find another resourceful spot. But what happens when there are no more spots that are hidden. There will be nothing left to do.

  4. Paulina P.7 says:

i think we have pleanty left except that all the oil is under houses and roads and alot on the beaches; its just that the law protects thoes people from getting the oil….but thats just my guess

  5. Zoe 5 says:

I think that we will eventually use all of it up, and that we should start conserving now so hat we will have more in the future.

    • karina p4 says:

i think that we do need to stop wasteing all this water and energy!!! cuz its all fun now but when everthing is gone everything will be gone no tv no cell phone and have fun taken showers in lakes try not to get kill wid all these gaters in flrida!!

  6. Christen P7 says:

i think that we are eventually going to run out of fossil fuels so we need to start doing a couple things. we need to conserve it and not be wasteful because that will only make it run out faster. and we need to start finding other energy resources that is as effective or more effective than fossil fuels.

  7. Shelby P7 says:

Our fossil fuels are running out and we need to start to use alternatives. If we begin to use more renewable resources like hydro, solar, or wind power along with non-renewable resources we can stretch out the time they will last. Eventually though we need to find ways to fill our everyday electricity needs so we aren’t stuck with a huge catastrophe.

  8. edgar 7 says:

what we should do is change now and live out all of this crazy stuff and also go to water or more (and safer) nuclear power!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    (= PIKACHU =)

    • andrew p4 says:

ummm….. water is used everywere and it is everywere how coud we be running out off it and um… energy isnt that like thounder and rain is always going to come back soo tell me mr.grant

  9. Christine P.5 says:

I think that we could run out of fossil fuels or we couldnt. I mean yes we use a lot of fossil fuels but also as the years go on there is new fossil fuels being made. So what ever we use is kind of being made up by the fossil fuels that are being made today.

  10. Christine P.5 says:

I do not know how much non-renewable energy resources do we have left but i do think we have a good number left because the world is huge and it has been around for a long time so we might have more than we think.

  11. Christine P.5 says:

Yes they will begin to run out but i dont think we have to worry about that. I dont think we will have to worry about that becuase they might not start to run out till a long long time after we die. They might even find new ways to keep them and reuse them. we never know.

  12. Christine P.5 says:

I think that we should watch how much non-renewable energy resources and fossil fuels we use. They might be the best thing to use but we just have to get ready for the worst if we do run out anytime soon. They should keep looking for new things to replace them and new ways to use them less.

  13. JeSsIcA P4 says:

i also think we should watch how much water and light we use cuz 1st its wastinq light and water and all the resouces we use 2nd we will have 2 pay more than u need 2 from yur bill…so we all need 2 watch how much we use and turn off lights and water and thinqs like that so you can help the economy…

  14. andrew p4 says:

is the world going to die in 2012?

  15. Mr. Grant says:

I like your conversations, it shows you guys are thinking your way through this issue, but has anyone looked up how long our fossil fuels are projected to last? Google it and see what you come up with.

  16. stephanie sanchez (6 period) says:

well i dont think theres a ending to fossil fuels.
but i think that they arent projected to last as lonq as we think because.
two thirds of the primary fuels are currently consumed in the world
and its use to produce enerqy

  17. stephanie sanchez (6 period) says:

well since its a non renewable source of enerqy it probably isnt qoinq to last any lonqer unless they find more plants and animals that lived and burn to release the chemical energy

    and its
project global energy consumption to increase by an average of 1.8% per year from 2001 to 2025.

  18. lauren. 1st says:

well, of course were going to run out of fossil fuels sooner or later. so i think that scientists will find a new way to replace fossil fuels and use other plants or remains and use them to power energy. there has to be an alternitive resourse to use insted of fossil fuels, we just havnt found it yet. (:

  19. Dries 7 says:

I think that know while we still have fossil fuels we should invest in taking advantage of other renewble resources like water, air, geothermal, ect. That way when we eventually run out of fossil fuels, we have other resources we can rely on.

    • Zoe p5 says:

good point dries, we should make a wind or water powered car that way we will never have to worry about transportation even hybrid will go with no electricity, but wind wont go or water.

  20. nancy 4 says:

i think i couldn’t live without electricity because that is very necessary and also without gasoline we coulnd’t transport to anywhere an i think that’s very important and also i think we should start saving the electricity or, gasoline, etc. and use it properly and in good ways
