Report Cards Today

Students share your report cards with your parents. This is a time to talk honestly about your successes and challenges, what’s easy for you and what’s difficult.

Middle School years are a time of significant change in your life — you begin to grow from a child into a young adult. Your body, emotions, thinking and reasoning skills are all maturing and at different rates. You have increased expectations from school to achieve higher levels of learning, communication and responsibility; while, on the other hand, you may be more concerned about social aspects, fitting in and making friends.

It’s a tough time in your life and you are pulled in many directions. Although some seem to glide right through it, others struggle to find a balance or may just want to hide from it all.

Celebrate your successes, even the small ones, and make a plan to overcome your challenges. Let your parents know what is going on; they really do want what’s best for you and I bet they’re willing to help. If science is one of your challenges come see me before or after school and I’ll help you develop a plan to meet the challenge.

  1. i was wondering if this would be appropriate for my science in the news Chuang Chuang the Panda is just too heavy to have sex. Thai authorities have put him on a strict diet as part of a long-running campaign to get him to mate with female partner Lin Hui at the Chiang Mai Zoo in northern Thailand.

“Chuang Chuang is gaining weight too fast and we found Lin Hui is no longer comfortable with having sex with him,” said the zoo’s chief veterinarian, Kanika Limtrakul, adding that Chuang Chuang weighed 331 pounds while Lin Hui is only 253 pounds.

As a result, zoo authorities are cutting out bamboo shoots in the daily meal for Chuang Chuang and giving the obese bear only bamboo leaves, Kanika said.

The diet plan is the latest in an unsuccessful and often strange campaign by zoo officials to get the two bears to mate.

They have held a mock wedding, announced plans to separate the two to spark a little romance and even talked of introducing panda porn — videos of other pandas mating — to get the pair in the mood.

Thailand rented Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui from China for $250,000 in October 2003 for 10 years. They are expected to generate millions of dollars in revenues from Thai and foreign tourists.

There are as few as 1,600 giant pandas in the mountain forests of central China, according to the zoo. An additional 120 are in Chinese breeding facilities and zoos, and about 20 live in zoos outside China.

Pandas are threatened by loss of habitat, poaching and a low reproduction rate. Females in the wild normally have a cub once every two to three years.

  2. This is quite appropriate, I see no problem. Reproduction in Zoos in a world-wide issue. Zoos hold many endangered species and they want the animals to reproduce in order to increase their numbers. Yet some animals do not mate well in captivity or they tend not to care for their young. Pandas are particular about their mates and there is a careful process of introducing pandas to each other in hopes of producing off-spring.

  4. If you want to raise that grade you need to start with the basics first.

Get prepared before you come to school. Eat a good breakfast and bring all your supplies to school (notebooks, paper, pencils, homework, planner,etc.).

Arrive to class on time and begin to work right away.

Concentrate on your classwork, not the students around you. Listen, take notes and ask thoughtful questions.

Set aside time everyday to do school work at home; not just homework.

Everyday review your notes, highlght important things in different colors, copy notes over if needed, jot down questions to ask the following day, complete any assignments and read more.

Have some fun too. Go outside and play and get some exercise.

Lastly, eat a good dinner and get plenty of sleep.
